Whether you're a developer pre-ordering materials ahead of a build, a builder staging stock for a project, or a retailer holding imports β€” we can hold your goods at our facility until you're ready for them.

You bring your goods to us (or we receive them from your freight provider), we store them securely, and when you need them dispatched or collected, we coordinate from there.

It's that simple. Storage is a paid service. Fees are agreed upfront before any goods are received. Contact us with what you need to store and how long for β€” we'll give you a straight quote.

Who Uses Our Storage

Good For Builders,
Developers & Retailers.

πŸ—οΈ
Builders & Developers
Pre-order materials to lock in pricing and secure supply before your build starts β€” then hold them at Hornby until the project or the relevant build stage is ready. Keeps your site clean and your supply chain certain.
Example: A developer orders windows and insulation 10 weeks before their consent comes through. We hold everything at Hornby. When consent is granted, we release the stock.
πŸͺ
Retailers & Wholesalers
Import full containers to get wholesale pricing, then hold the stock at Hornby until your customers or stores are ready. Use our facility as a Canterbury distribution point without needing your own warehouse space.
Example: A building supplies retailer imports a 20ft container of plywood. They hold it at Hornby and collect in smaller loads as their customers order.
🌏
Importers
Receive imported containers at our Hornby facility post-customs clearance. We accept the delivery, and store your goods until you're ready to collect or have them forwarded. Convenient location close to the Port of Lyttelton.
Example: An importer brings a container from Lyttelton to Hornby. We receive it, hold the goods, and the client collects in portions over the following weeks.

How It Works

Three Steps.
That's It.

01
πŸ“‹
Enquire & Agree a Rate
Contact us with what you need to store β€” the type of goods, approximate volume or pallet count, and how long you expect to store them. We'll come back with a written quote. Once agreed, we confirm availability and book your space.
02
πŸ“¦
Goods Arrive & We Store Them
Your goods arrive at our Hornby facility by appointment β€” by container, truck, or freight. We receive them, check them in, and hold them securely in your allocated space. Storage fees apply from the date goods arrive, as agreed in your quote.
03
πŸš›
Collect or Dispatch When Ready
When you're ready for your goods β€” whether that's collecting them yourself or having us arrange delivery β€” just let us know. We'll coordinate the release from our end. Outbound freight is arranged separately at your cost.

Our Location

Hornby,
Christchurch.

Our facility is at 93 Main South Road, Hornby, Christchurch β€” in the heart of Canterbury's industrial and logistics precinct. Good truck access, close to SH1, and approximately 20 minutes from the Port of Lyttelton.

Access to the facility is by appointment only, Monday to Friday during business hours. We don't have a walk-in yard β€” everything is pre-arranged. If you're dropping goods off or collecting, book a time with our team first.

We handle standard building materials β€” plywood, insulation, plasterboard, windows and doors, panelling, and similar goods. If you have an unusual goods type, let us know upfront and we'll confirm whether we can accommodate it.

Why Store With Us

What You Get
From Storing Here.

Location
Prime Canterbury Position
Hornby is Canterbury's logistics hub β€” close to Lyttelton, close to SH1, and central to the Canterbury construction corridor. Whether you need goods collected from here or dispatched further, the location works.
Security
Professionally Managed Facility
Your goods are stored in a controlled, managed environment β€” not on an open construction site. Significantly less exposure to weather, damage, or theft than on-site storage during build programmes.
Timing
Supply on Your Schedule
Pre-order materials and hold them until your project is ready. Consent still pending? Build not started yet? Import prices about to go up? Hold stock at Hornby now, collect when the time is right.
Simplicity
No Complicated Agreements
We give you a quote, you agree, goods arrive, we store them. Straightforward. Fees are agreed upfront and you won't be surprised by charges you didn't expect. Simple, commercial, transparent.

Storage is
a Paid
Service.

We don't offer free storage. We charge for it β€” fairly and transparently. All fees are quoted in advance and agreed in writing before your goods arrive. No surprises, no hidden charges. Just an honest rate for holding your stock.

To get a quote, just tell us:
What you need to store (goods type, approximate volume or pallet count)

Questions

Quick
Answers.

Is storage free if I buy products from Hanes?
No β€” storage is a separate paid service regardless of where your goods came from. We charge for holding goods at our facility. All fees are quoted and agreed in advance. Contact us to discuss your storage requirements and we'll provide a clear rate.
Can I store goods I didn't buy through Hanes Distribution?
Yes, in most cases. We can store goods from any source, subject to the goods type being something we can handle at our facility. Contact us with details of what you're storing and we'll confirm suitability. We handle most standard building materials β€” plywood, panels, insulation, joinery, plasterboard, and similar.
How do I access my goods once they're in storage?
By appointment during our operating hours β€” Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. We don't have walk-in access. If you need to collect goods or have them dispatched, contact us to arrange it. We'll need reasonable notice to prepare your goods for release.
Do you arrange delivery from the warehouse to site?
We can help coordinate outbound freight from Hornby, but this is arranged separately and at your cost. Let us know the delivery destination when you enquire and we can give you an idea of what outbound freight would cost to add. Alternatively, you're welcome to arrange your own freight company to collect from us.
Is there a minimum storage period?
There's no hard minimum, but storage fees are structured on a weekly or monthly basis. Very short-term holding (a day or two) isn't typically cost-effective. Talk to us about your specific situation and we'll advise on the most sensible arrangement.
How quickly can you turn around a storage quote?
Usually within 1 business day. Send us an email at Enquire@hanesdistribution.co.nz with what you need to store, roughly how much, and how long β€” and we'll come back to you promptly with a written rate.
